When buying your fabric choose anything you love, just make sure to add 14″ to each dimension of your plywood. The top cushion is 2″ thick foam wrapped with quilt batting and leather. The batting and leather will fill the gap and make the cushion fit snugly.
I used a marker and measured 3 inches all the way down the foam and used a ruler to make a straight line. Drape the upholstery fabric over the bench seat and give yourself at least 1 1/2 inch border underneath the plywood for stapling. I can't wait to replace those shoe baskets with something sturdier. Measure for the length of your fabric from that end to the other end and cut.
Then, fold one side of the longer pieces of fabric over the plywood, pull tightly, and start stapling it in place. It was completely sewn together, no plywood required. For the box corners, wrap the material like you would a present.
Prepare the seams for your box corners. Just be sure to cover them separately. It uses the easy envelope closure with ties to add a fun personality.
Cut the ¼ plywood slightly smaller than the top section of the bench (mine is 29 ¼ x 15 ¼). We trimmed 1/4″ off each side to ensure a perfect fit. I didn’t have any trouble at all with that, but my bench was made of mdf.

We just used excess plywood. Measure the length and depth of your bench top, and write it down. Measure bench and trim foam accordingly.
You can totally use two separate pieces of plywood for the bottom. With a drop cloth underneath the plywood, coat the entire top surface of the plywood with spray adhesive. Cut the excess material as you go.
